Examples of Push 5 Use:

Following are a few examples of how Push 5 can help to connect and protect people everyday.

Help for Everyday Living

User Case: You never know when something unexpected will happen and you might need help—car trouble on the highway, stranded in the snow, or just missed your ride.

EXAMPLE: Rafael is proud of his new car. He has been saving for months and finally bought a late model convertible. It seems to run fine, but he’s been hearing a strange noise somewhere in the back. Rafael always carries his cell phone and subscribes to Push 5. He knows he can count on his brother, roommates and friends to get to him quickly if the car unexpectedly breaks down.

Safety Precautions

User Case: It’s smart for anyone to take safety precautions. There are times when anyone is more vulnerable—walking alone through an empty parking garage, driving in an unfamiliar neighborhood, jogging when there’s no one around.

EXAMPLE: Rachel often works late and walks alone through an empty parking garage to her car. Since subscribing to Push 5, Rachel now walks to her car with greater confidence—aware of her surroundings, she keeps her cell phone in hand. With one-touch, she can alert building security, her husband and co-workers that she needs help when she pushes speed dial 5 (the five key) on her phone.

Children

User Case: A child who is home alone and scared is able to quickly contact parents and neighbors for help using Push 5.

EXAMPLE: Now that Sam is age 12, he sometimes stays home alone for short periods of time. He knows he should call 9-1-1 in the event of an emergency but worries about the times when 9-1-1 may not be appropriate. Both Sam and his parents feel safer knowing that Sam has a fast and simple way to reach them, his grandparents and the neighbors if he needs help. Sam’s family has subscribed to Push 5 for their home and cell phones.

Maintaining Independence

User Case: An elderly parent is able to instantly alert his neighbors and children if he needs immediate assistance.

EXAMPLE: John, 80, lives alone and is proud of his independence. His children worry: he has a heart condition and has been reluctant to call 9-1-1 in the past. He counts on his children for help but finds they’re often difficult to reach by phone. John’s children have subscribed to Push 5 for him and have set up his cell phone to speed dial 5 (the five key on his phone) to the Push 5 number. John’s children are reassured knowing that their father now has a simple and immediate way to always reach them and his neighbors for help. In fact, John feels the same way about Push 5.

Buddy System

User Case: A group of college friends help each other stay safe.

EXAMPLE: Ann, Sue and Diane are freshman roommates and best friends at a university. They all have subscribed to Push 5 for their cell phones and added each other as Push 5 contacts. What’s more, they’ve agreed upon an emergency plan for what to do if one of them activates a Push 5 alert. They always carry their cell phones with them and let each other know when they might be vulnerable—coming back alone from the library late at night, going on a date with someone new, attending a party off campus.

Working Alone and Traveling Outside of an Office

User Case: A realtor gains extra protection when working alone and meeting new clients out of the office.

EXAMPLE: As a realtor, Ellen often works alone, travels outside of the office, and meets people she doesn’t know. She hosts open houses and shows property to clients after hours all over town. Ellen works in a safety-conscious office that requires her to leave a detailed itinerary with her assistant, establish a “code” word she can say during a conversation to signal she’s in trouble, and carry her cell phone at all times. Ellen subscribes to Push 5 for extra protection. She knows that in an emergency, there’s no guarantee of reaching her assistant in one phone call, much less getting the chance to say the code word. Ellen thinks Push 5 is a smart way to complement her other safety precautions.

Neighborhood Watch Groups

User Case: Neighborhood watch group members use Push 5 to help keep their community safer.

EXAMPLE: Joe and his family live in a close-knit but unsafe neighborhood. He and other members of his neighborhood watch group have subscribed to Push 5. In the past, they’ve relied upon phone trees to spread an alert, and found doing so too slow. Now, they can reach each others instantly and simultaneously in one call. Joe feels good about contributing to a safer neighborhood.

Assistance for Non-English Speakers

User Case: Non-English speakers rely upon Push 5 to connect to friends and family who can translate and help in an urgent event.

EXAMPLE: Steve’s grandparents speak little English and their native language is not commonly spoken in their area. Sometimes they feel isolated and wonder what they would do if something happened. In an urgent event, they’ll use Push 5 to connect with family and friends who can translate for them.

Initiate Search for Missing Persons

User Case: Initiate a search for a missing child or Alzheimer’s patient.

EXAMPLE: Julie’s husband has dementia. There have been a few occasions when he has wandered away from home and gotten lost, usually within a couple of blocks of their home. Julie subscribes to Push 5 and enters their neighbors as contacts. Should she find her husband missing, she’ll use Push 5 to immediately initiate a search of their immediate neighborhood. In such a situation, when time is of the essence, Julie is glad to know Push 5 is always there.
